It’s crazy to me that so many people think ketchup is healthy because it has tomatoes. Just because it is partially made from tomatoes does not make it healthy! Yes, you may get a irrelevant amount of lycopene when you use it, but you will also be getting a high dose of sugar. Sugar is the devil when it comes to weight loss. Also, did you notice that people put ketchup mostly on fatty and salty foods (no one ever…
Make! A Slim-Babe Parfait
The magic number when having a sweet treat (at least for me) is Seven. Seven grams of sugar is manageable. If you pay attention to labels, most of the packaged energy bars and snacks proclaimed as “low fat” and “fat free” have much more than 7 grams. So, I have come up with this concoction and call it the Slim-Babe Parfait. I eat it every day (sometimes twice a day). It is a great way to get your calcium, live…
Stop Snacking While Watching TV
Small healthy changes repeated over and over again are what will change our bodies in time for summer weather. TV is evil when it comes to weight-loss because it is a gateway for mindless eating. For many, it’s the first time of the day that we don’t have to think. There are no executive decisions to be made or pressures from work. It’s so easy to get lost in “your shows” and on days when you don’t have your favorite…

Ever eat your carefully portioned squares of dark chocolate while surfing the web only to realize that they disappeared in the abyss of your mouth before your web page destination was fully loaded? And do you then feel deprived, ravenous and cheated out of your reward? I know this well. How enjoyable is the experience of eating…
Healthy Sunday Grilling
Not much beats grilling on a summer Sunday. Today we had tilapia and wild Alaskan salmon (the Kirkland brand at Costco is my favorite). We change up the marinades, but always try to keep it healthy. The tilapia was marinaded in Ken’s light Italian dressing and the salmon in Trader Joe’s Soyaki. Although Soyaki contains sugar, it’s much lower in both salt and sugar than many of the other teriyaki type dressings on the market. If you choose to use…
