This is going to be a Mother’s Day like none of us have seen in our lifetimes. Non-essential travel is banned, social distancing means many of us can’t even give our mom a hug, and everyone is tightening the budget. But even though you can’t visit mom, you can let her know you’re thinking of her by sending a thoughtful gift.
So this year’s Mother’s Day Gift Guide – Stay Home Style is all about little luxuries (many under $50) that will make mom feel beautiful and cared for while social-distancing. Because speaking from personal experience with two young boys at home, just a little pampering/self-care + a workout can make all the difference between feeling happy and in control vs. overwhelmed.
Mother’s Day Gift Guide – Stay Home Style
a. Peach Slices Sheet Mask Bundle: Both myself and my husband swear by these Korean beauty masks. I wrote about them when I gave them as favors for my Galantine’s Dinner last year. A line created by K-beauty mogul, Alicia Yoon, these hydrate and leave your face with a beautiful glow after one use. At $2 a mask they are such a deal and we buy them in bulk.
b. Golden Bee Inspired Headbands: I just purchased these velvet knot headbands to hide my “quarantine roots” and I love them. They are well made, stretch and don’t hurt my head like many headbands. These are also going to look good with high-neck puff sleeve tops and kaftans in neutral colors.
c. Palm Beach Kimono: I included this because I wore it on my birthday trip to Eluthera in January. Many people wanted to know where they could find it when I posted the photos. It is an incredible value, very forgiving and doesn’t wrinkle during travel. Wear it with a swimsuit or cut-offs and a top.
d. Friendsheep Organic Dryer Balls: Even though you are stuck at home it doesn’t mean that your clothes need to be wrinkled af. I stopped using dryer sheets because of the chemicals–opting for dryer balls. These are handmade and 100% fair-trade. They make an adorable, useful gift for any mom and available as sheep, stars, piggies, penguins, sloths and plain.
e. Crazy Lady fuzzy slippers: Current times call for comfort and these cross-band plush house slippers are perfect for women of all ages. If the faux fur and memory foam isn’t enough to entice you, they also have EVA waterproof soles (so you can wear them outside to get your Shipt delivery or pick up your children’s toys strewn all over the driveway).
f. Chelsea Charles Godmother or Mama Love Tag Necklaces: These two-sided, reversible tag necklaces in 14k gold-filled over sterling silver feature the words Godmother or mama on one side and a signature stamped heart on the other. These are timeless and can be layered and worn with anything.
g. Loving Tan 2-hour Express Tan: I was turned on to this by my friend and fellow designer, Emily Gonzalez, who always seems to look island bronzed in Barre3. Sometimes adding a little color is a great pick-me-up when you aren’t feeling your best. When I feel frumpy from staying home, I like to exfoliate with a salt scrub and then use this self-tanner. It doesn’t streak, looks fabulous and best part…it doesn’t smell.
h. Alice & Olivia Staceface protective face mask: Masks are a must right now. Many brands are using collection fabric to create fashionable ones. For every mask sold, A & O is donating one to communities in need.
i. San Francisco Salt Company Black Truffle Salt: This is the perfect little luxury if your mom, godmother or auntie is a foodie. I’m obsessed with black truffles and this is delicious on popcorn, veggies or a spinach and goat cheese omelet.
j. Facial Steamer/Warm Mist Humidifier With Hair Band: This is another self-care item perfect for quarantine. While taking care of kids, working from home and trying to maintain the household, a facial routine might be an afterthought. This steamer helps unclog pores and creates a calming, spa-like environment for mom.
k. Deesse’s Linkage Meu 4x Treatment 0.3oz: This is a Japanese hair mask to be used once a week. A little luxury similar to Olaplex, it keeps your hair healthy. I’m giving my hair a timeout since I can’t have it colored professionally. This includes laying off the heat and harsh high buns.
l. Summer Straw Panama Hat: Nothing hides the roots more stylishly than a sleek fedora. I have a couple of these. Pair with shorts, a summer dress or linen pants.
Wishing all of you moms out there a wonderful Mother’s Day. You are doing an amazing job, especially during these trying times. And when your head hits the pillow at night, know you are a queen and you just rocked the day. xx CC
