Merry Christmas! I’m writing this 31 weeks pregnant sitting at a Starbucks counter overlooking the last minute, bustling shoppers in downtown Philadelphia on Christmas Eve. Geoff and I are visiting his family who live about an hour outside the city, and we took a couple of days by ourselves to have our Babymoon. I’d like to thank Geoff’s brother, Matt, and his wife, Stephanie, for surprising us with a beautiful room right in the heart of downtown. It was so relaxing and fun that I had to share. I’ve never been to the city of Brotherly Love, but Geoff grew up here so we had an agenda all about food, relaxation, shopping and…more food (people in Philly take cuisine seriously, which thrilled me since I officially can’t see my toes).
Reading Terminal Market
This is a historic, indoor farmer’s market right in the heart of downtown. Along with the largest produce selection I’ve ever seen, counter after colorful counter of every type of cuisine peppered the market—Greek, Japanese, Cajun, Chinese, Lebanese, Italian, ice cream fountains, bakeries, and stalls devoted to the art of the Philly Cheesesteak.
The Wanamaker Building
Now Macy’s, but still known to the locals as the classic department store, Wanamakers, this tourist destination has a beautiful light show every hour.
LOVE Park
Nicknamed because of the LOVE statue by Robert Indiana located in the park’s center. We waited in line for 25 minutes to get a picture and so worth it to me.
Couples massage at Eviama
Eviama is a holistic day spa near Rittenhouse Square. This was one of the best massages I’ve ever had. Plus they were able to get us an appointment same day and accommodate my need for a masseuse certified in pregnancy massage.
Dinner at Buddakhan
We decided to just sit at the upstairs bar and the meal was fantastic. We shared miso black cod, wasabi crusted filet, sea scallops, and wok broccoli. Yum!
Boutique shopping in Old Town
Philadelphia has some really hip shopping with tiny boutiques featuring sophisticated, yet wearable lines like Isabel Marant Etoile, Rag & Bone, and Graham & Spencer. I spent hours looking at the unique jewelry, handbags and cool displays (I have a very patient man).
I feel so blessed for the holiday season and looking forward to the New Year. Merry Christmas! – CC
