Welcome! So this is the first cocktail in our “Count Me Healthy Cocktail,” series that will run monthly. I debated whether I should blog about this particular cocktail because it is like, top secret (well, I guess not anymore). It is my go-to drink and I don’t know how the hell I came up with it (like all great things, I guess through experimentation). I didn’t name it the Chelsea Chiller because I love myself, but because it actually helps me “chill out.”
Anyway, this drink is very low in sugar, actually has fiber and low on the glycemic index. Plus it just kicks if you like grapefruit and makes the perfect back porch sip on a hot day.
Chelsea Chiller recipe
* Half a ruby red grapefruit (peeled)
* DIET Tonic
* One ounce (or 1.5 if you are feeling saucy) of your Vodka of choice
* 1-2 packets of Stevia
The rest is pretty straightforward. Pulverize the grapefruit into the drink. Then add the vodka and Stevia packet. Follow with the diet tonic (note: if you add the diet tonic before the Stevia the interaction causes major fizz which may run over your glass).
The words “Healthy” and “cocktail” in the same sentence may seem counter intuitive, but a recent segment I watched on MSNBC suggests that those who partake in one/two drinks per day have smaller waists than teetotalers. This news was all it took for me to “keep on keepin’ on” with my cocktail/wine habit! Whoo-Hoo!!!
What you have to remember when you drink (same as when you eat) is that sugar is the devil to your waistline. You will not have a rock star body ordering girlie Pina Coladas and Strawberry Daiquiris when you hang with your crew. Also remember to balance your alcohol consumption with healthy eating habits.
Do you have go-to healthy cocktails that you would like me to feature in our Count Me healthy Cocktail of the Month? I’m all ears and remember to keep counting!
